... where friendship is more than a name!

Bruce Inglis
Lay Minister to Russia

Bruce Inglis is a member of Friendship United Methodist Church who has served as a lay minister in Russia for many years. He makes annual trips to Russia to help start churches in that country. In addition, Bruce has a traditional Christmas Card ministry to the Russian people.

During November, our members had the opportunity to send Jesus-centered Christmas cards with a clean $5 bill made out to "My Dear Christian Russian Friend" with a note of encouragement in Jesus. This year we collected $725.00 for this mission. Bruce tells us that the Russians are very thankful for your personal love for them. Bruce gives the cards out at their local Christmas party. Bruce explains that "for 70 years under communism the Russian people were not allowed Christmas parties, only ungodly drunken New Year's parties. Now they love Jesus and His beautiful Christmas songs. Praise our wonderful God! Pray for them. You make the difference!"

In addition, Bruce collects used eyeglasses and hearing aids which can be repaired and given to people in Russia who need them. There is a box for your donations in the foyer of Friendship Church or they can be dropped off in the Church Office.

Russian Update from Bruce Inglis -- early Fall 2001

On July 4th, 2001 the Russian pastors had their first baptism in Razan, a city of 1 million people south of Moscow, where we began new churches this past winter. Through July, August, and early September they are very busy baptizing in all of the areas where we have churches in Russia in the lakes and rivers. Another big blessing was the 21-day Christian summer camp for children. The parents and the grandparents helped pay the expenses. Please pray that each Russian Church can have a nice children's Sunday School.

I am getting ready to go back to Russia in November, if God is willing. Last year Bible Truth Publishers sent 8,000 Joyful News Gospel calendars, but I ran out early. This year they sent 12,000, so they should be there when I arrive.

Here are some other ways that you may want to help the Russian pastors, and churches:

  • Pray for the pastors, choir directors, and churches.
  • Help with monthly bonus, rent, travel, Bibles and New Testaments for a pastor.
  • Send a box of nice used clothes for the pastors through the mail to Russia.
  • Please continue to pray that the Russian people have peace and peace-time jobs and food and be allowed to come to Jesus and the church.
  • We need to buy houses to convert to Church Buildings for our rural congregations. These houses may cost from $1,000 to $3,000. We hope to buy the rest of the 1st floor for Sunday School, and Women's Society Center Office for our Russian churches, which is connected to our center church in St. Petersburg. The cost is $17,000.

To help in these activities, make your contribution payable to: Methodist Full Gospel Mission, Inc. and mail them to:

Russian Update from Bruce Inglis -- late November 2001

On November 27th, 2001, the members of the Friendship Church Administrative Council laid hands on Bruce and gave him a Prayer Send Off, as he left for Russia on the morning of November 28th.

Shortly before he left, Bruce asked for prayers for the churches in Russia:

PRAYER REQUESTS FOR RUSSIA -140 CHURCHES

  • More choir directors - one for each church.
  • More Sunday Schools and Sunday School teachers so that each church has a permanent Sunday School for children and adults.
  • Need the power of the Holy Spirit to liberate the Russian people from the strong hold of alcoholism.
  • Pray that each church can have its own building.
  • Pray that God gives us new Spirit filled pastors and workers in central and southern Russia. Matthew 9:35-38. In Year 2000, this is a new area for our church and pastors.
  • Pray that God gives all Russians food and peace.
  • After 70 years of an atheist dictatorship where they closed all of the churches, pray that each town in Russia can have their own church. Thousands of towns still have no church of any kind today.
